On the Track of Child Victims

It is widely known that children were not spared the terror of the Nazi regime.

These pages will give you a good idea of how Nazi terror affected children in our city.

To this day we have placed 35 Stolpersteine for children and teenagers in Kassel. More are to follow in upcoming years.

In 2017, 15 more stones have been placed.

Five years ago we first came across a record from the 1980s on which 108 underaged Jewish victims of the Kassel Nazi regime were listed. We started a research team that would investigate each victim’s fate: the group ‘On the Track of Child Victims’ (see also: ‘Participate’ (Mitmachen) ).

So far we have been able to identify more than 180 children whose fates are yet to be investigated in detail. None of them had the chance to leave behind any detectable trace of themselves in their home town.

Often we do not know anything about them besides their birth-and-death dates (eg. No. 2, 5 and 7). The results of our research are thus mostly limited to information about the victims’ parents. In other cases a wide range of documents exists (eg. victims of euthanasia, no. 6).

We are still at the beginning of our research when it comes to - for instance - Romani people, for whom we have not been able to place any Stolpersteine so far.

We are grateful for every piece of information that helps us with our research.
